Recently, our writers at the Raceline for the STSC tier of SCOR caught up with driver Dave Lake, who drives for Spectrum Health’s Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. During the preseason, Lake had a solid showing, finishing in the top 10 for a majority of the races. More recently, he finished fifth in the 90 lap A-Main in the first official race for SCOR and STSC at the Watermelon Capital Speedway. Lake would qualify eighth, but by the end he had raced his way into the fifth place. After the race, one of our reporters asked Lake how he felt for the first official race for SCOR.
“I felt really comfortable out there, there wasn’t any added pressure for it being an official race for points. I didn’t want to work myself up and lose focus, I wanted to approach the race how I approached all the races before.”
Following the Winter Warmup 90 race, drivers for the STSC traveled to Bakersfield, CA for the River Ranger 75 at Kern County Raceway Park. Qualifying for the race created some interesting results, as a few drivers didn’t qualify as well as they did the previous race. For Dave Lake, he went from qualifying 8th to qualifying 17 with a time of 18.463 seconds. After qualifying, Lake was kind enough to give his thoughts on his performance during qualifying.
“It’s something every driver will deal with in their career. You won’t always be on top of qualifying ever time, so all you can really do in those situations is qualify the highest spot you can, then prepare for the battle. Isn’t that the most fun part of racing though? Fighting all the way from the bottom and making in to the top five? Maybe, it’s just me.”
