Finding the Groove – James Rolls, Phelps and Light Win Rounds 3 and 4

Robert Phelps Returns to NSRS Victory Lane: Robert Phelps scored his second career NSRS win, taking the checkered flag at Eurospeedway Lausitz for his first career oval victory.

Phelps largely dominated the event at the German superspeedway, leading 37 of 50 laps around the two-mile tri-oval. Phelps also earned the five bonus points for qualifying on the pole for the event.

The rce ended under caution, as Satoshi Nakata and Dayymo Wert collided on the frontstretch and triggered a multi-car incident. Danny Vandoorne finished second, with Kevin Keselowski third, Luis Cabrera Perez fourth, and Alex Light fifth.

Rick James Outduels Drunk Tuck for Southern National Win: In a thrilling finish, Rick James collected his second STSC win of Season 3, holding off Drunk Tuck for the win at the North Carolina bullring.

In the closing laps, James and Tuck battled side-by-side for the win after a late-race restart in the 70-lap A-Main. In the end, James held strong on the high line to defeat Tuck by 0.19 seconds.

All 29 cars who started the A-Main reached the finish line at Southern National, with 15 cars finishing on the lead lap. Lightning McQueen, Yuno Wozy, and Randy Trombone completed the top five.

James Makes it Three at South Alabama: STSC’s annual festival of turn-four wall dodging ended with a familiar face in victory lane, as Rick James won for the third consecutive race in SCOR’s short track showcase.

James took the lead from Drunk Tuck on lap 62 of the 70-lap A-Main before cruising to a 1.3-second victory. Tuck had led from the start of the race after starting on the pole but faded to fourth in the closing laps. Lightning McQueen finished second, with Yuno Wozy third. Steven O’Sullivan finished fifth, his first career top-five but third consecutive top-ten finish.

Alex Light Takes Lone Star Win: Alex Light claimed his second career NSRS victory, taking the checkered flag with a dominant showing in a caution-free race at Texas Motor Speedway.

Light took the lead from pole-sitter Kurt Gunnabee in the opening laps and checked out to a convincing win, running away from the field before winning by nearly three seconds over defending champion Danny Vandoorne.

Dave Lake finished third, while Tigole Bitties extended his points lead with a fourth-place finish. Rookie Spark Spencer III rounded out the top five to remain second in series points.

  1. Glad to have gotten LSRT their first win of the season. Hopefully we’ll nab a couple more along the way until the end of the season.

  2. Tuck fading from the lead at the end was tough to see. Thought it was only a matter of settling the rest of the positions, but caution after caution kept compressing the field back together. Still, gotta deal with everyone else making the occasional nose-plant into the turn 4 barrier.
